The National Wine Day takes place in Chisinau during the first weekend of October at the end of the grape harvest.
In 2002 the Government decided that the National Wine Day would take place every year. It is set at the main city square and lasts for 2 days.
Several dozens of wineries present their wines in individual stands, often richly decorated in national style, and offer wine tasting to visitors. While wine is the main attraction, many local restaurants and cafes offer traditional food – grilled meats, placinta, other national dishes, fruits and desserts.
The holiday also has plenty of local colors, with traditional music and dance and people dressed in national costumes. Many vendors sell Moldovan handicrafts.
The Wine Day program opens by the official part with the Moldovan President speech and a colorful show, after which the tasting itself begins. The show ends late in the Sunday evening with the fireworks.
