Over 100,000 people participated in the National Wine Day held on 7-8 October in the capital. Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Vasile Batca made the statement today.
The official said that about 44,500 tourists from the USA, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, France, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Latvia, China, Japan etc. attended the event.
“From these countries, the official delegations, local mayors, business people came to the event. Visitors were offered a thousand types of wine from 2016 and 2017. Thus, 58,000 wine bottles were marketed in the country’s wineries, and over 48,000 bottles in the centre of the capital”, Batca said.
Director of the National Office of Vine and Wine Gheorghe Arpentin said that this year, the concept of consuming drinks reasonably was achieved at the feast.
“Over 16,000 tastings were made , which means that each person consumed 400 ml of wine for two days. After the event, we managed to recover 10 per cent of objects that would pollute the environment. We will make the same efforts at the next issues so that the feast will be 100 per cent ecological”, he said.
Deputy Director of the Competitiveness Project in Moldova Diana Lazar noted that during the event, the promotion of wine tourism was also successful.
“The feast was organized qualitatively. We are glad we managed to promote Moldova’s image at international level”, Lazar said.
According to data presented at the conference, in 2017, 2.7 million lei were allocated for the organization of the event. At the same time, during the event, wine was sold in the amount of 1.6 million lei. 47 wineries participated in the 16th issue of the event.
The Wine Day was organized by the National Vine and Wine Office, Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, Associations of producers of wine “Codru”, „Valul lui Traian”, „Ștefan Vodă”, „Divin”, with the support of the Moldova Competitiveness Project, funded by USAID and Swedish government and Moldova Agroindbank general partner.
